How to Write Content for High-Ranking Site
High-ranking sites need content that is different from most websites. This is because high-ranking sites are no longer all about gaining traffic and manipulating search engine rules. High ranking sites are more about maintaining their good online reputation, maintaining their robust traffic numbers, and protecting themselves from losing their “High rank” status. Here are some tips on how to write content that is suited for high-ranking sites.
It’s all about the traffic
High-ranking sites are there because they get a lot of traffic. People often forget that the rules set out by Google are there to encourage organic traffic to attend websites. Their rules then take into account all the ways the user may engage with the content. Google knows that people will link to pages that they like, and will share items that amuse them. It is things like this that will raise a website through the search engine results.
People plant backlinks to try to manipulate the rules laid out by the search engines. High-ranking websites do not need to manipulate the rules because the rules work in their favor. They already have people clicking “Like” on their website and already have people talking about them on social media.
The process becomes a positive feed cycle. More traffic sees the site, so more people link to it, comment on it, etc. This then attracts more people to the site who do the same, and the cycle goes on and on.
The content does not need to worry about SEO or keywords
The high-ranking sites exist because they get lots of traffic, so when you are writing content for a high-ranking site you do not need to worry about making it search engine friendly. You need to worry about making the content perfect and engaging for the reader. The reader needs to be able to use the information you give them, even if they are only using it for entertainment value.
The site must have a use
All of the biggest and most long lasting websites have a use, and sometimes it is the value of that use which will dictate how much traffic it receives. For example, the Google website offers a multitude of tools including the best search engine on the planet. Millions upon millions of people therefore visit it every day from around the globe.
Sites such as eBay allow people to buy great second hand stuff, and even websites such as YouTube are popular because people can watch videos for free. If you are writing content for a high ranking site then you should think seriously about how useful your content is, because more use equals more traffic.
All of the on-Page SEO must be perfect
This means that if you are writing blog posts for a high-ranking site then you had better make sure that your tag cloud is filled in with useable and relevant keywords. You had also better make sure than any content you write is backed by strong Meta descriptions and Meta keyword choices. The title should also grab the attention of the reader, without being manipulative, whilst also being honestly descriptive.
Attract traffic with engaging content
Even if your written content is highly useful, you must still make a connection with the user and help them engage with the text. Useful information can be placed into a list, but this will probably not engage the reader. A high-ranking site will need content that engages the reader, so that even if you are giving out bland fact, the reader will still want to read onwards.
The written content must be highly relevant to the user
A high-ranking site will no doubt have a very well targeted audience, which may frequent the site quite often. If you are writing content for the site then it is up to you to find out everything you can about this target (and loyal) audience. The more you can learn about them–then the higher the chance that you will create content that is relevant to them.
Write content that appeals to a fan base
Sometimes a website is host to a fan base. For example, some high-ranking websites are frequented because they discuss and revolve around certain events or TV shows. Their fan base is only loyal to their site due to a by-product of their love for the websites main topic. Obviously if the website is attended by fans of the websites topic then you need to write content that will appeal to the fan base. Good topic subjects for these fan sites are, “New developments”, “Plot explanations” and “behind the scenes” articles.
Make your content easy to skim read
Doing this will make your article less of an inconvenience for the user, which is a quality that a high-ranking website should have. Doing this will also create articles that are easier to read in full, which is always a good thing.
Make your content easy to share
High-ranking websites will often have their website users share bits of their website with their friends and associates. People tend to do this for websites that they attend regularly, so try to make your content “Share Friendly”. One common feature of share friendly content is content that is not too heavy, i.e. it will not take a long time to send or download.
